Willamette Valley Grill Sizzles in Salem
New Steakhouse Elevates Dining for Locals and Wine Tourists
Diners in Salem have a brand new option for beautifully prepared steaks, innovative appetizers, delicious desserts and a wine list specializing in Northwest wines. Willamette Valley Grill is open for business.
Situated in Northeast Salem , just 2.3 miles from the Capitol, this prime steakhouse with 78 seats is a wonderful addition to the local Oregon culinary scene. “We are fortunate to have owners who are truly dedicated to raising the bar and offer beautiful, full flavored dishes in a simple elegant setting,” says Executive Chef, Mathew Slack. “We want to do things right and that means making a commitment to our wine list, quality of ingredients and service.”
While there are many lovely features on the menu above and beyond steaks, carnivores are going to be truly satisfied by the delicious options. The unique Steakhouse Broiler heats up to 1800 ° , which seals in the juices beautifully. Chef Mathew has designed the steak menu to be fun and interactive. Guests are encouraged to select one of the premium steak offerings and then pair it with a flavorful “Style.” Style choices range from the highly seasoned Black Peppercorn Demi with Wild Mushrooms to the robust Red eye with its Coffee Rubbed Steak & Spicy Jus Lie and the indulgent French style with its Rogue Valley Blue Cheese Croquettes and Red Wine Reduction Sauce.
Chef Mathew has created some tantalizing and artfully displayed Northwest specialties that are bold and exciting. Duck Breast Tacos with Apricot-Pepper Glaze and Fennel Pollen Dusted Lamb Chops with Plum-merlot Reduction are just two of the items that creatively blend the flavors of the Northwest.
Mathew has an understanding of the local territory not only from his culinary training but he is also a native Oregonian. Mathew grew up in Eugene , attended Western Culinary Institute in Portland , and has held various culinary positions throughout the Willamette Valley . In fact, Chef Mathew was honored by the Salem Visitors Association for his culinary skills when he received the 2004 People’s Choice Award during a regional conference. Mathew also dedicates time to training up-and-coming chefs, and has participated in the Pro-Start mentoring program three years in a row. In the summer of 2006, one of Mathew’s Pro-Start teams won first place at the Junior Iron Chef Competition at the Bite of Oregon.
Additional outstanding menu items include a range of appealing appetizers, sides and desserts are also main attractions at Willamette Valley Grill. The Northwest spinach salad is a simple yet delicious way to begin. Fresh spinach is combined with caramelized onions, sliced Hood River apples, and classic Oregon creamy blue cheese. The Portabello fries have immediately developed into an appetizer favorite among guests, as they are lightly cooked with tempura style batter and terrific way to start any meal.
The Northwest wines were carefully selected to represent a broad range of regional varietals, producers and styles. Robust reds from Griffin Creek in Southern Oregon and elegant, lighter Pinots from the Northern Willamette Valley co-mingle with classic expressions from Willamette Valley Vineyards and other premium, local wineries. The wine list also includes many premium wines from California .
If there’s room for dessert, don’t miss the elegance of having the Banana’s Foster prepared tableside. This classic dessert is served by hand right in front of you. Beautifully caramelized bananas are combined with delicious French vanilla ice cream for an unbeatable dessert.
“We see ourselves as a great option for business meals because our tables are intentionally spaced far apart to allow for extra privacy,” says Chef Mathew. “We also recognize that there is a need in Salem for more options to enjoy a fine dining experience for a special occasion, especially if you want to complement your meal with a great bottle local of wine.”
A successful restaurant does not just serve guests and bring the check. It becomes an integrated part of the business and social community at large. Willamette Valley Grill aims to become one of the region’s most celebrated destinations. Please join us and taste the region’s newest commitment to great food and wine. Bon appetite!
